The first round goes to the Cooperstown Hawkeyes.

Alex Todd homered and doubled to lead the Hawkeyes to a 6-1 victory over the Oneonta Outlaws in a New York Collegiate Baseball League game at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown on Friday.

It's the first of seven times the two local teams will meet this year. Each are in their first season in the league.

Cooperstown (3-2) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Matthew Howard doubled to right and went to third when Ben Miller grounded out to second. Todd then flied out to right, scoring Howard for a 1-0 lead.

The Outlaws (2-4) tied it in the top of the second, when James Young homered to left.

The Hawkeyes took the lead for good in the sixth. Cooperstown graduate Frank Petroskey led off with a double to left and moved to third on Howard's bunt-single.

With Miller up, Petroskey got thrown out trying to steal home on a play started with a pick-off attempt of Howard at first. Petroskey got caught in a rundown before being tagged out. Howard went to second on the play.

After Miller popped out to short, Todd homered to left for a 3-1 lead.

Cooperstown made it 4-1 in the fourth on an RBI single from Ryan Avery. The Hawkeyes closed the scoring in the fifth on an RBI double from Goose Kallunki and an unearned run, when Matt Creel reached on an error.

Kallunki finished with two doubles. Zach Jeney earnd the victory for Cooperstown, which had a 12-3 advantage in hits.

Cooperstown is at Amsterdam tonight, when Oneonta visits Mohawk Valley.
