Former New York Collegiate Baseball League player has earned a major award from the Northeast Conference for the 2010 season. Central Connecticut State University senior Sean Allaire (Saratoga ’09) was chosen as the NEC Player of the Year

Sean Allaire is a senior infielder from Bristol, Conn. He was named first team all-conference at the utility position after playing at short stop, third base, catcher and in the outfield during the regular season. Allaire topped the Northeast Conference with a .456 batting average. Heading into the conference playoffs, he has 93 hits, 70 runs batted in, 22 doubles and 30 multi-hit games. Allaire’s 70 RBI and 22 doubles are school single-season records. He is seven hits shy of tying the school mark of 100. The senior has 13 home runs, 59 runs scored, five triples, eight stolen bases and five sacrifice flies.

Allaire, a 2009 second team all-conference choice, earned three Northeast Conference Player of the Week selections this spring. Allaire won two of the final four weekly awards handed out as he helped Central Connecticut to a second-place finish in the league standings. The Bristol, Conn., native turned in possibly the best performance in school history on May 5 in a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary’s. Allaire went 6-for-7 with four home runs and 10 runs batted in. He clubbed two home runs, one of which was a grand slam, in the opening game and then belted two more in the night cap. The senior collected two grand slams in the final month of the regular season.

The Central Connecticut State product played for the Saratoga Phillies of the New York Collegiate Baseball League last summer. He led the Phillies in games played (38), runs scored (24) and stolen bases (11). Allaire was the only Saratoga player to start in 38 of the 39 games the team playing during the regular season. The infielder drove in two runs over Saratoga’s three-game Eastern Division semifinals series with Glens Falls.
